Filipe Queirós (Portugal, Viana do Castelo - May 15 1983) is the principal tuba at the São Paulo
State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) since 2016.
He started his musical studies at the Professional Music School of Viana do Castelo and he
graduated at the ESMAE, Superior School of Music and Arts of Oporto, with the professor
Eduardo Nogueroles.
He participated in master classes held by Roger Bobo, Gérard Buquet, Daniel Perantoni, Patrick
Sheridan, Rex Martin, Gene Pokorny, Warren Deck, and Mel Culbertson, with whom he studied
periodically in Bordeaux, France.
As a soloist he performed solo and chamber music recitals in Portugal, Spain, France, Luxemburg, Germany, England, Finland and Brazil. He played solo concerts with the EPMVC Orchestra (Portugal) - Ligo-Ligo for Tuba and Orchestra by Markus Fagerudd, Lisbon Sinfonietta - Concerto for Tuba and String Orchestra by Roger Steptoe, European Youth Wind Orchestra (European Tour) - Ligo-Ligo for Tuba and Orchestra by Markus Fagerudd, São Paulo University Orchestra (Brazil) - Concerto for Bass Tuba by Vaughan Williams, Santa Maria da Feira Wind Orchestra (Portugal) - Symphonic Variations for Euphonium and Band (transcription for tuba) by James Curnow and with the internationally recognized brass quintet Spanish Brass - Capriccio da
Camera for Tuba Solo and Brass by Christer Danielsson.
As a free lancer he played with the Orchestre National de Bordeaux – Aquitaine (France),
Orquestra Sinfónica Porto Casa da Música, Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra do Norte,
Orquestra do Algarve. In 2015-2106 he integrated the Jeunesse Musicales World Orchestra,
during the Asian and Europe tour. He won the tuba position in the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira
(2013), Orquestra do Teatro Municipal de São Paulo (2014) and Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado
de São Paulo (2016) where he currently works.
He was member of the ensemble contemporain Remix Ensemble Casa da Música (Portugal),
during 2001 to 2013, playing tuba and also euphonium and Contrabass trombone. With Remix
Ensemble he recorded several CDs and performed around Europe in the most prestigious halls
and festivals as Wiener Festwochen e Wien Modern, Agora (IRCAM — Paris), Printemps des Arts
(Monte Carlo), Musica Strasbourg.
He was the founder professor of the tuba graduation class at Aveiro University, Minho University
(Braga) and professor at Oporto Superior School of Music and Arts. He also gives masterclasses
around Portugal, Spain, France and Brazil. He is professor at the OSESP Orchestral Academy.
